Ransom Block is a patented feature that is not found in other vendors’ libraries. It creates a physical air-gap within the library that physically prevents robot access to the protected tape cartridges. Once the physical air-gap is in place, there is no remote access to the cartridges thereby providing a strong level of protection for your data. However, while there is no remote physical access to the tapes, administrators can remotely check that the tapes are still there and protected. The Ransom Block feature can be implemented using policies, so no administrator interaction is required to create the air-gap and protect the tapes. Physical access to the library is required to remove the block on the tapes.
